May: The Bracebridge Fall Fair has added the first ever Giants weigh off. Giant large pumpkins, tomatoes, and sunflowers have been added to this year's fall fair competition. Start growing now! The original vegetables competition is still going on too. There’s over $1000 in cash prizes up for grabs. Get plants started early so you’re ready for September 14, 2013.

Saturday May 18th: On Saturday May 18th it’s Phoenix's 4th Annual Yard Sale/Fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis! The sale starts at 8:00am at 18 Brunel Road. All proceeds will go straight to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Saturday May 18th: The Sprucedale Horticulture Society is holding their annual fund-raiser. The plant sale is being held on Saturday, May 18th at Novar Foodland in the parking lot. It starts at 9:00am and runs to 1:00pm. Buy hardy locally grown perennials, herbs, annuals, houseplants, and more, plus support your community society and get advice from experienced gardeners.

Saturday May 18th: Enjoy Muskoka Realty is celebrating their one year anniversary at the newest location in Gravenhurst on Saturday, May 18th. In celebration they will be holding a community barbecue and fundraiser for the Salvation Army. Just bring a non-perishable food item and help fill the red canoe! Everyone that brings a donation will receive a ticket for a draw towards a 'cottage themed' prize. All the food collected will be donated to the Gravenhurst Salvation Army Food Bank. They are cooking up Hamburgers, Bratwursts, as well as Candy Floss, popcorn & Ice Cream.

Saturday May 18th: Celebrate International Museums Day on the Saturday of the Victoria Day weekend at the Muskoka Lakes Museum. Visit for free from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, May 18th and see what is new for the 2013 season. Sneak a peek at the new Cottage Room exhibit, & take a look at the Anniversary exhibits. Saturday May 18th: The Dads of Bracebridge are hosting 2 events this upcoming Victoria day weekend. First they are introducing the first annual Tweed Ride. A leisurely ride from Annie William's Park to Santa's Village, and back. Start the morning with a cup of tea, lunch will be served at Santa's Village, then a cold refreshing beverage upon completion at Annie Williams. $25 per person, $40 per couple, or $65 per family. Saturday May 18th and 25th: Knox Presbyterian Church will be hosting 2 BBQ’s and a concert this spring. The two BBQ’s this spring will be held on May 18th (Victoria Day Weekend) and May 25th. Both starting at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They will all be held at the Van Schyndel Greenhouse, on Campbell’s Road. The menu for all three will be: Hamburger or Sausage, a drink and a Knox Ladies homemade butter tart all for only $8.00! Money to support further the work and mission of Knox Presbyterian Church.

May 20th-25th: Join Gravenhurst Mayor Paisley Donaldson & Council for Random Act of Kindness Week May 20 – 25. There are many ways community groups, businesses & schools can get involved and help spread kindness. Random Act of Kindness business cards are available at the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre and Town Hall. “Hit” someone with Kindness hand them the card and hopefully they will continue to pass along the kindness. Monday May 20th: The next meeting of the Sprucedale & District Horticulture Society will be held at the Sprucedale Community Centre on Monday, May 20th. Doors open at 7:00pm, meeting at 7:30pm. The topic this month is ‘flower design’ with guest speaker Lynda Cipolla. Everyone is welcome to attend. Bring your mug for coffee or tea and goodies.

Wednesday May 22nd: There will be an accessible presentation for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people in Muskoka to see Eva Olsson. Wednesday May 22nd: Wednesday, May 22 is the Opening Day for the 22nd season of the Gravenhurst Farmers' Market. The Market runs from 9:00am-2:00pm at the Muskoka Wharf Special Events Field on Hwy 169 just north of Gravenhurst, opposite Muskoka Bay. They will be giving away free annual plants to customers and if you are in the right place at the right time you could win one of four beautiful hanging baskets at the market.

Thursday May 23rd: The Canadian Parents for French Ontario present Conversation Café on Thursday May 23rd at Monck Public School. Friday May 24th: Meet the artists from the Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour at a public reception, being held Friday, May 24th from 5 to 7 at the Canada Summit Centre in Hunstville. Recent work included in the Autumn Studio Tour will be previewed in the foyer and atrium of The Canada Summit Centre which is open to the public now through August 13th.

Saturday May 25th: Take Part in Community living month by coming to Morrison Meadows Farm, for a Pancake Brunch and hay wagon ride, on Saturday May 25th from 10:00am-1:00pm. Admission is by donation, and proceeds are going towards the construction of a brand new Petting Zoo! The farm is located at 1177 Fraserburg Road in Bracebridge. Saturday May 25th: On Saturday, May 25th at the Port Carling Community Centre, there will be a fundraiser luncheon for a Wing and Prayer; a rehabilitation center for injured birds in Muskoka. A presentation will be made by Muskoka Wildlife, lectures by Tyler Hore as well as Bob Bowler. Saturday May 25th: The 5th Annual Jump Start day will be Saturday, May 25th at Canadian Tire in Bracebridge. The day long fundraiser helps raise money for Jumpstart’s May Red Ball Campaign. $2 buys you a red ball, the national symbol for a child’s play. There will also be a BBQ, waterless car wash and games by donation through out the day. Jump Start Canada is an organization that helps Canadian kids get involved in organized sports.

Saturday May 25th: Mark your calendar for the Bracebridge Horticultural Society's Plant and Bake Sale which will take place on Saturday May 25 th, 8am to approximately noon. Location is the Millennium Gardens on Ecclestone Dr, east of Wellington. There will be a good selection of Muskoka hardy perennials and biennials. Come early for the best selection.

Saturday May 25th: On Saturday, May 25th, RE/MAX North Country Realty Inc., Brokerage will join thousands nationwide for the 9th Annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Yard Sale for the Cure. The one-day eventraises funds in support of breast cancer research and education. RE/MAX North Country Realty Inc., Brokerage will host a Yard Sale from7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 75 West Road in Huntsville. Proceeds will be directed to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the largest dedicated supporter of breast cancer research in Canada.

Saturday May 25th: Watt Public School Council is hosting a spring fundraising event! On Saturday, May 25th, they’re holding their first even Soap Box Derby Fun Day. Sunday May 26th: On Sunday, May 26th it’s the OSPCA Friends for Life Walk-a-thon at Annie Williams Memorial Park in Bracebridge. Thursday May 30th: The Rotary Muskoka Golf Classic is happening on Thursday, May 30th at Rocky Crest Resort near MacTier. Shotgun start at 10:00am and just $200 per golfer before May 16th. Saturday June 1st: Fairvern Nursing Home in Huntsville is collecting items for a garage sale fundraiser, happening June 1st from 8am until noon. They are also collecting scrap metal at the All Ontario Recycle bin, until June 3rd, located in Fairvern’s staff parking lot at 15 Mill Street in Huntsville. Wednesday June 5th: A free prenatal class will be held by the Health Unit at the Ontario Early Years Centre on the lower level of Harco Plaza, 83 Maple Avenue in Haliburton on Wednesday, June 5th, running from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Expectant parents are invited to learn how to prepare for their babies arrival. Additional classes will be held on June 12th, 19th and 26th. Wednesday June 5th: Huntsville High School's Youth in Transition event is coming up. ‘Life’s a Canoe Trip’ will be held on Wednesday, June 5th at Rivermill Park from 12:30 until 3:00pm. It’s an art therapy celebration and art show featuring canoe paddles. Admission is free and snacks will be provided.

Thursday June 6th: There will be a free family craft sale and dinner event on Thursday, June 6th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Baysville Community Centre. Head out and make crafts and cook dinner together. Registration required at the Baysville Library.

Friday June 7th: On Friday, June 7th at 7:00 pm the Knox Presbyterian Church will be hosting a Concert at Knox, 45 McMurray Street. The concert will feature “The Lankin Friends’ Band” and “The Fog”. There will be a “free will donation”. Money to support further the work and mission of Knox Presbyterian Church.

Saturday June 8th: The Huntsville Community Choir presents “Saturday Night on Broadway” on Saturday, June 8th at 7:30pm. It’s happening at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Tickets are $15 and children under 12 are free. Tickets available at Treasures and Trophies or at the door.

Saturday June 8th and Sunday June 9th: Another year for the Muskoka Lakes Spring Art Tour. Over the weekend of Saturday June 8th and Sunday June 9th, visitors and residents will be able to view the work of 17 local artists at 9 different studios across Muskoka Lakes. From pottery to painting, jewelry to basket weaving to woodturning, the work of the artists on the tour represents the best of Muskoka's arts and crafts. The tour will run from 10 am to 5 pm. Saturday June 15th: On June 15th from 1:00-4:00pm there is going to be a community barbecue in Dorset. It is being hosted on behalf of the S.S. Bigwin which will be sailing Lake of Bays this summer. Friday June 21st: 2013 marks the 75th Anniversary of the Canadian Cancer Society and 10th anniversary of the Relay for Life in Muskoka. Saturday July 6th: Joe's Team triathlon/duathlon will be taking place at the CNIB Centre at Lake Joseph in Muskoka on July 6. All proceeds from this event go to support construction of the Joe Finley Head and Neck Translational Research Centre, and since 2006 has raised $6.3 million making it the most successful grassroots fundraising initiative in the history of the hospital. Collectively, Joe's Team has raised $8.3 million of its $10 million goal. Participants are able to compete as an individual, or join a relay team in an extraordinary day where they can swm, bike, and run.

Sunday July 7th: Hospice Muskoka`s Butterfly Release Day is Sunday, July 7th from 12:30 to 2:30 at Memorial Park in Bracebridge. Celebrate the life of a loved one by releasing your own live Monarch butterfly! Donate $30 for one butterfly, or $100 for four butterflies. You will receive a charitable tax receipt for your donation. Proceeds of the event will be used for the Hospice Muskoka Bereavement Support Programs in South Muskoka. Friday August 16th to Sunday August 18th: The 22 nd Annual Dockside Festival of the Arts is happening at the Special Events Field at the Muskoka Wharf. Dates and times include: Friday August 16th from 10:00am-6:00pm, Saturday August 17th from 10:00am-6:00pm and Sunday August 18th from 10:00am-4:00pm There will be over 90 juried artisans and crasftpeople form Muskoka and across the country, live entertainment, splash pad music and prizes and ‘Shop Till You Drop’ for three days .

Red Cross: Are you a caring individual with some time to spare? The Red Cross is looking for Volunteers to help with their Transportation Program. If you’re interested in learning more, contact Tara Bone at Tara.Bone@redcrossca. Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage.

TRINITY DRAMA GROUP PRESENTS: "Table Manners" Part of Alan Ayckbourn's, superb comic trilogy: 'The Norman Conquests'. Table Manners discloses the events of the weekend as seen from the dining room. Lions BINGO:  The Bracebridge Lions Club is pleased to announce that they will be continuing to host their Bingos in 2013. Their wish list contains the following items: clumping/non clumping kitty litter, scratching posts, canned cat/kitten food, canned dog/puppy food, dish soap (sunlight), liquid laundry detergent (high efficiency), drier sheets, Mr.Clean floor cleaner, Canadian Tire Money, Gift Cards (Walmart, Canadian Tire, Pet Valu), and monetary donations to our animal care account.

Car Seat Clinics are offered monthly in Huntsville and Gravenhurst, and are run by trained car seat technicians with the OPP, Huntsville Community Policing, local Fire Departments and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Huntsville clinics are held the first Thursday of every month at the Huntsville Fire Department, 1 Payne Drive, from 12pm-2pm. "Getting Ready for Baby" prenatal classes: Many parents-to-be have a lot of questions about what life will be like with their new baby.
