Planned Power Outage Scheduled for Communities Outside Parry Sound

Close to 4,000 Hydro One customers outside of Parry Sound will be without power next Saturday, May 11th. The utility has to interrupt power to some customers in Foley, Christie, Humphrey, Conger, McKellar, Cardwell, and Montieth to perform maintenance and upgrades to the system. The interruption will be about 6 hours beginning at 5:30 in the morning next Saturday, May 11th.

St. Mary's Wants Your Metal, Electronics and Textiles

If you plan on spring cleaning this weekend, save your scrap metal, old electronics and textiles for St. Mary’s School in Huntsville. The school is looking to help you get rid of you old stuff in a fundraiser to help improve their playground. If you have any scrap metal, you can drop them in a grey bin at the front of the school. St. Mary’s also has a bin for old electronics. They are also accepting textiles you can put in garbage bags and drop off at the front door.

Below is a list of items the school is accepting. However, it isn’t limited to this list. If you have an item that’s not on this list, contact Parent Council to confirm if they will accept your item.

Scrap Metal: pop cans, tin cans, BBQ lids, stoves, fridges, freezers, old bike frames, steel pipes, etc.

Electronics: ink cartridges, broken cell phones, old laptops and digital cameras.

Textiles: clean clothing, bedding, towels, stuffed toys, belts, purses, shoes, etc.

Hornets Baseball Workouts This Weekend

Open workouts begin this weekend for kids aged 9-11 who want to play baseball. The Muskoka Hornets Mosquito baseball team is inviting boys and girls from Parry Sound and Muskoka to head out to Peake Fields in Bracebridge on Saturday from 10:00am until noon. Muskoka Fire Danger Rating Set to HIGH

The Muskoka Fire Danger Rating is now set at HIGH. Fire officials ask that you ensure that NO DAYTIME BURNING takes place. Extreme caution must be taken with all open flames. Small fires are permitted in most rural areas of Muskoka, keeping in mind no daytime burning is allowed. You also must have adequate tools and water to extinguish the fire if the need arises and you must be with your fire at all times. Consult with your local Fire Department for outdoor burning regulations in your municipality.

Mississauga Man Facing Impaired Charges After Arrest in McDougall Township

West Parry Sound OPP has charged a 47 year old Mississauga man with several drinking and driving offenses after they got a 911 tip last night. Police were told of a possible impaired driver travelling on Hwy 124 towards Parry Sound. Police located the driver on Hwy 400 in McDougall Township and arrested him for impaired. He's to appear in Parry Sound court May 16th.

Police Make Arrest in Two Year Old Break-Out Case

West Parry Sound OPP has arrested a 29 year old Parry Sound man following recent comparisons of evidence made by the Centre of Forensic Science. The comparisons were from evidence collected at the scene of a break out nearly 2 years ago. On Sunday October 30th 2011 the owner of Wellington's Pub and Grill responded to a motion alarm inside the restaurant and found a person inside. A struggle ensued but the suspect was able to escape. The man stands charged with break out of place, theft under $5,000, assault causing bodily harm and disguise with intent He’s currently in custody pending a bail hearing. The investigation continues.
