E-mail Print PDF

It's a difficult conversation to have with your kids. Recently, there have been stories of children being killed in attacks or by natural disasters. Mary Shirley-Thompson from Family, Youth and Child Services of Muskoka, says she gets calls from parents all the time about how to talk to kids about stories in the media. She says the first thing to do is to understand if your child is bothered by it.

Shirley-Thompson also suggests revisiting your plan for other emergencies, for instance if your child gets separated. You can contact FYCSM with any questions, or visit www.fycsm.ca or www.kidsmentalhealth.ca.
