E-mail Print PDF

Damage from this morning’s cottage fire on Kilworthy Road is estimated at around $200,000. Fire crews got the call at around 3:00am from a neighbour. Around 25 firefighters from Ramara, Severn and Gravenhurst helped to battle the blaze. They were able to protect nearby structures but the cottage has been destroyed. Gravenhurst Fire Chief Larry Brassard says there are no injuries and no cause has been determined. Brassard is encouraging all cottage owners, as they return to open up their cottages, to check smoke alarms.

MP Tony Clement Praises First Responders And Others For Flood Response Efforts

E-mail Print PDF

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement is praising local first responders and others in the wake of all the recent flooding. Clement toured areas in Bracebridge and Huntsville today where flood waters left people homeless and stranded and left numerous roads, bridges and other infrastructure damaged. He said beyond the enormous amounts of water, what struck him were the municipal officials, first responders, and many civic-minded groups and individuals that came together to assist their neighbours. Clement says the organization and response was truly inspiring. “It was heartening, in the midst of this record-setting flooding, to see people reaching out with first-rate professionalism and compassion,” he said After taking an initial tour of flooded areas last weekend and receiving regular updates from municipal leaders, Clement returned to Ottawa Monday, where the House of Commons is in session. Following votes in the House Wednesday night, he journeyed back to Parry Sound-Muskoka for today’s tour.
