Cottage season has officially kicked off in Muskoka. The Victoria Day long weekend has both residents and cottagers hitting the streets to take in the beautiful weather and local activities. This is what some of you have planned on this three-day holiday.
Meantime, with more people walking our streets, the OPP is asking drivers to be aware of their surroundings. Also, if you plan on going out on your boat, be sure to check your equipment before heading out and wear a lifejacket at all times.
A two vehicle collision in Highway 11’s NB Lanes sent two people to hospital today. It happened at 11:15am near Shoreview Drive. A Burlington man in a pickup towing a trailer saw a vehicle attempting to merge from the right shoulder. He tried to veer to avoid what he believed would be a collision and lost control and went into the ditch, rolling onto its roof. Severn Fire assisted with extricating the driver of the pickup. Both drivers were transported to hospital in Orillia. The extent of their injuries are not known at this time but they are not believed to be life threatening. The female driver of the other vehicle is from Sebright. She has been charged with Failing to Yield to Thru Traffic. The northbound lanes of Highway 11 were closed for 1 ½ hours but have since reopened. As a result of the rollover, 2 cats that were in the pickup truck are now missing. If anyone in the area of Shoreview Drive sees the cats they are asked to contact the Orillia OPP.
