Save the Bala Falls supporters want Muskoka Lakes Council to keep on course in their fight against a controversial hydro plant. This week, several speakers addressed the issue. Some, like Peter Long, a Director of the Muskoka Ratepayers Association, urged council to support Option #2 and meet Swift River Energy halfway. Others like Sandy Currie, President of the Moon River Property Owner’s Association, said a survey showed 93 percent of Township residents approve of council’s fight. Currie received a long applause from the crowd who packed council chambers Monday.
Council’s been asked to seek an extension to Swift River’s addendum public comments deadline of June 29th, 2012. Mayor Alice Murphy says a staff report’s coming and that council may hold a special meeting before the deadline to address that request.
