The Township of Muskoka Lakes Council has decided to delay a planned salary increase for non unionized workers at the municipality. The increase had been approved by the former council and was to take effect January 1. Now the workers may have to wait until the next council meeting January 18 to learn if they will get the pay adjustment. Chief Administrative Officer Walt Schmid confirmed the planned bump up in pay resulted from a report conducted by an outside consultant to determine if municipal employees were receiving equal pay for work of equal value -- and to bring employee pay more in line with their counterparts in other municipalities of similar size. The McDowell report found there were some differences in pay and recommended the increase to achieve a more equitable payment structure for township employees. Schmid says the delay will provide the new Council time to review all aspects of the municipality's spending.
