Moon River Property Owners President Makes Bala Falls Suggestions

Hits

The President of the Moon River Property Owners Association pitched suggestions to Muskoka Lakes Council this week regarding the Bala Falls controversy. On Tuesday, Sandy Currie said the Ministriy of Tourism and Culture is the one that should have been reviewing the project in addition to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE). Currie asked the township to request a formal review of the project by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. He also asked Council to designate Burgess Island and the Bala United Church property as Cultural Heritage landscapes. Currie says the proposed lease for the hydro-electric project includes public lands that make up the cultural, historic and economic “heart” of Bala. He says allowing a developer which has no ties to the community, to control the land for the next 40 years would be “very disturbing”. Councillors could address Currie’s requests today.
