E-mail Print PDF

The new Bracebridge roundabout could get its first makeover next year. Bracebridge's General Committee has discussed what could go in the new roundabout's centre, but there's no decisions yet. Mayor Graydon Smith warns that if the Town tries to design something by committee they'll come up with something awful. $150,000 has been earmarked for the work. Councillor Scott Young suggests a sculpture by a local Bracebridge artist. The work could happen after next winter

Bracebridge Looking to Buy Post Office on Maintoba

The Town of Bracebridge is looking into the feasibility of buying the Bracebridge Post Office at 98 Manitoba Street. The move would allow the Bracebridge Public Library, located beside the post office, to expand into it or be relocated into it. The old Post Office has already been declared surplus by the Government. The Town could hire an architectural firm for $16,500, plus a $3,500 contingency amount, to investigate the building. Bracebridge CAO John Sisson says asbestos has been identified in the building, so work to fix that would need to be done. The Town has until October to make its purchase intentions known.

McMurray Street's traffic problems could be about to get worse. Bracebridge Councillor Lori-Lynn Giaschi-Paccini says she's heard lots of complaints about traffic on the street near Bracebridge Public School. Problems include parking in front of and in driveways, double parking and kids almost getting hit by cars. With condos going in at the old Bracebridge High School down the street, she says traffic there will only get worse. A new review will look at making the street one way in a northerly direction, but Councillor Barb McMurray says that idea's been shot down by residents in the past.

Highway 118 West Crash: Vehicle Strikes Rock-cut in Milford Bay

E-mail Print PDF
A vehicle has struck the rock-cut in Milford Bay on Highway 118 West. Muskoka Lakes Township's Deputy Fire Chief Jim Schneider says the call came in around 4:15pm. OPP are still at the location, but fire and ambulance have cleared the scene with no injuries to report. No word yet on what caused the crash, but Schneider says the area went through a heavy downpour of rain, which can make things slippery by bringing oils up out of the road. The accident occurred near Hewlitt Road and Highway 118 West, closer to Port Carling. Detours sent motorists through Milford Bay in both directions. Traffic was backed up for a time.
