BREAKING: SIU Terminates Investigation Into Torrance Death

E-mail Print PDF
The investigation into police involvement in the death of a Muskoka Lakes man has been terminated. The Special Investigations Unit began their probe when Bracebridge OPP responded to a call at a Southwood Road home around 1:00pm Tuesday afternoon. While at the location, officers were speaking with a woman outside when a single gunshot from inside the home was heard and a 57-year-old man was later found dead. The post-mortem exam confirmed that the man died as result of a gunshot wound to the chest from a non-police issued firearm. Notes found at the scene indicate the man wanted to harm himself and at no point did police see or speak with the man. On the basis of the investigation, there is no suggestion that any officer had any involvement with the deceased at the time the firearm discharge.

This year's show incorporates every element of the wharf with things to see and do on the docks, in the water and on land.

Rita Adams, Chair of the show, says there's a new theme this year.

In keeping with this, the Maple Leaf Chapter of the Outboard Motor Club will be on site to discuss the years their motors were built and the innovation that came with it.

It promises to be fun for the whole family..

This year, the $10 ticket price gets you entrance to the show, the Muskoka Boat and Heritage Centre Museum and a discount on the one-hour hour Segwun cruise!

The official ribbon cutting to unveil new facilities at Bethune Memorial House in Gravenhurst happens July 11th, 2012. The site opened in 1976, but a year ago the old visitor centre was taken down and work on a $2.5 million rebuild began. On July 11th, 2012 the new building will be opened for the public and media to see. Bethune House Site Manager Scott Davidson gives us a sneak preview.

The public will also get a glimpse of new exhibits.

It's expected tourism will jump there from 12,000 visitors a year to about 20,000 - which will help the local economy. Bethune House commemorates the life of Dr. Henry Norman Bethune, who is most famous for the years he spent in China, serving as a surgeon and teacher.
