Brian JamesI was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and came over to Canada as a wee Scotsman on one of the final voyages of the Empress of Canada cruise ship (Mum wasn't a big fan of planes). A 'smart alec' in training since I could speak appeared to be the ideal foundation for either being on stage, being in front of the camera or being behind the mic. The end of high school life was fast approaching so I decided to pursue the 'live' no second chance at a first impression world of radio. I attended (and graduated) Seneca College School of Communication Arts with a Radio and Television Broadcasting diploma. The journey began with a position as an operator/producer at a Toronto radio station followed by announcer gigs in Simcoe, Bracebridge, and Huntsville, all the while doing various voicework and media projects along the way. Cottage country always had a special place in my heart and it was that journey into Muskoka (many years ago) that made me think "this is a nice place to raise a family". The play known as 'Life' has had it's twists and turns and ups and downs so although some cast members have changed... the stage remains the same and I currently love life with a 'rekindled' college sweetheart along with matching his and her teenagers totalling a household of six. An exciting opportunity a few years ago created a wander from 105.5 Huntsville, but as luck would have it, an even more exciting opportunity to reunite with my love of 'radio' and the best listeners someone with a microphone could wish for, has me right back where I belong.

Thanks for listening,

Break the chains...

As time passes at the speed of...uh...time. I can't help but notice all good intentions start to fade. Weeks ago when I returned from a rejuvenated vacation week of canoe rides and mindless wandering, I vowed to keep the vacation spirit alive throughout my week...and... I did... for about a week. Don't get me wrong, I have added some new basic quality of life routines back into my day. But something happens to us where we forget to do things we enjoy instead of the things we 'need' to do. Week one was filled with a surprise canoe ride, drive to a beach to catch a sunset, and a couple of big walks that Sherry and I took. Week two, a couple of quiet moments on the back deck and we took a walk (to the mailbox). This past weekend was the beginning of week 3 post vacation. We hesitantly with hymmm and hawww, went for a walk. We were debating whether to just relax, maybe have a cup of tea, maybe see if there was a movie on, but we started our walk (to the mailbox). Before you knew it... you know what happened? Life happened! Energy came back, we passed the mailbox and continued chatting and looking at gardens and houses and trees and sky... all the things we miss in our vehicles and our lives. We were out for over an hour...and loved it. We must continue to battle basic science...stationary things wish to stay stationary and moving things want to keep moving. The health benefit is actually the secondary point. I realise that it takes a lot of energy to 'start' life; it actually takes a lot of energy to truly relax. But the energy is spent in the first few minutes to get over the first little hill, after that it's all coasting. Try it, try something. Change up your routine a little. Force that walk upon yourself, take your coffee in a travel cup to the waters edge or trail. Breaking your pattern doesn't have to mean skydiving. Life has a million more little things in it than big things. Enjoy one of them.
