Human remains found on Manitoulin Island belonged to a man with Alzheimer’s who wandered away from his home two years ago. Seventy-eight-year-old Alfons Jauernig was last seen on a trail on western Manitoulin in May 2010. A hunter found the skeletal remains last week on Thursday. When Jauernig went missing, he was the subject of an intensive search for several weeks but to no avail. Although the OPP don’t say what the cause of death was, they say foul play is not suspected.
