The Homeowner Protection Centre says 34 per cent of families here have been affected. The group says there needs to be stronger provincial rules to protect people.

Running a Red Leads to Drug Charges

A North Bay man is facing charges after running a red light on his e-bike. Police say it happened at Highway 17 and Gormanville Road on Sunday afternoon. The 52-year-old was found in possession of marijuana and was driving while disqualified. He will appear in court on June 25th.

A Sturgeon Falls woman will be driving off in a new ride tomorrow morning. Tim Hortons is congratulating Rachelle Binette who won a new Toyota Rav-4 in the recent Roll Up the Rim to Win contest. She will be presented with her new vehicle tomorrow morning at the Tim Hortons on Coursol Street in Sturgeon Falls. The presentation begins at 11:00am.

Discovery North Bay Waterfront Museum Goes Green this Weekend

If you've got a green thumb, you might want to check this out. Volunteers will plant more than 1,400 perennials and 400 shrubs in the median strips of the Discovery North Bay Waterfront Museum parking lot. It takes place this Saturday, starting at 10:00am. The work is made possible by the North Bay TD branches. The TD "Friends of the Environment fund" gave $3,000 to make this happen. A June waterfront tree planting is also in the works for North Bay.

LIPI is set for another amazing weekend. Low Income People Involvement holds its 2nd annual "Amazing Race" in North Bay this weekend. The group helps lower income families in our city, and this is a big fundraiser for them. On Saturday, several local teams of four people will compete in a variety of physical and mental challenges, raising funds through pledges of support from the community.

The Dionne Quints put North Bay on the map with their birth on May 28th, 1934. And this weekend, the local Dionne Quints Museum on Seymour Street will celebrate that anniversary a little early. Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00am until 4:00pm there will be fun for the kids and anyone can sign a birthday card to be sent to the surviving sisters. The museum is actually the original home the girls were born in almost eight decades ago, and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the globe every year.

Area businesses are taking part in a special seminar this morning. An "employer's breakfast" is being held at the Best Western. The effort is being jointly hosted by Professions North, HR North, and the North Bay Newcomer's Network. The free seminar will explain to local companies that they have other options to fill jobs they cannot seem to fill. After looking locally, some of these employers still cannot find candidates with the right skills for certain trades and professions. The seminar will discuss free or low cost options to recruit candidates from other cities to move to North Bay and help those companies to complete their staffs.
