PRESS RELEASE
Despite suffering a disappointing 30-25 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Jr. Argo in the final game of the season, several Nipissing Wild players faired extremely well when it comes to overall league statistics.
Most notably was return specialist Jeremy Poeta who lead all players in overall return yards (punt and kick combined), finishing with 733 total return yards. He was also tied for tops in the league with 2 kick returns for touchdown with one of those being the longest return of the year at 120 yards.
Defensive back Jordy Matheson had a fantastic year for the Wild, finishing second in the OFC with 121 defensive points. Points are awarded each week for tackles, sacks, interceptions and other defensive accolades. Matheson finished 8 points behind the league leader, posting an amazing line of 49.5 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 4 interceptions and 1 defensive touchdown in just 8 games.
Also finishing near the top of his statistical group was second year running back Jordan Sutcliffe. The shifty back, who is looking to crack the Ottawa Gee Gee's lineup this fall carried the ball 99 times for 607 yards, good enough for 4th overall. Sutcliffe was also second on the Wild in receiving with 122 yards on 6 catches.
Other notables; kicker/punter Mitch Frederick was in the top 5 in both punting and field goals as well as being the scoring leader for the Wild with 34 points, which puts him at 9th in the OFC. Colin Anger finished 7th in defensive points with 93 followed closely by linebacker Jordan Beaudoin in 9th with 82 points.
