Fostering and continuing partnerships. That’s the future and success of the South Porcupine detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police according to its newest commander, Staff Sergeant Brent Cecchini. At an informal sit down with the media Friday, Cecchini spoke briefly about the challenges and expectations from the detachment and himself. Cecchini is a firm believer that the way forward for the OPP is to create more relationships and enhance the existing partnerships with the communities they police. He says the geographical size of the area is one such challenge as well as trying to maintain a responsible fiscal policy and stay within their budget.
Cecchini also alluded to the fact that former commander Staff Sergeant Rick Witty started a number of policies and strategies that held merit and he intended to continue them. He assures the community that the OPP are doing their utmost to keep them safe on the highways, waterways and trails and they will be very strict in enforcing regulations in each instance. Cecchini adds its only been a few weeks since he took official command, but it’s turning out to be a fantastic experience for him. Cecchini is no stranger to the detachment, having been a traffic officer for some years here.
