About a third of the cost for the upgrade to our wastewater treatment plant is in the bank. The federal government has signed off on a three-way agreement with the City of Timmins to fund the upgrade of the Mattagami Wastewater Treatment project. Under the Green Infrastructure Fund, Infrastructure Canada is putting up $19.8-million towards the project, touted as the biggest Timmins has ever undergone. The Ontario government has contributed a similar amount, but the highest cost will still be bourne by the City. That’s because the initial project cost was a guess, but the realized scope puts the project at around $74-million.
