ONTC Update

E-mail Print PDF

When it comes to the ONTC the minister has made an ambiguous comment around divestment “maybe” not being the “only” choice, reality is that the Minister, under the direction of the Premier, continues to operate with divestment as the only direction.  Premier Wynne has made it clear that this is the case. But Kapuskasing mayor and FONOM president, Alan Spacek, says he is hopeful that the direction that the committee is taking. There will be more meetings and more frequent meetings says Spacek. Cochrane’s mayor, Peter Politis, says the O.N.T.C. is the second biggest employer in Cochrane and affects about 3,000 families directly and indirectly between here and North Bay.  These families and the northern economic psyche need clear commitment not more words of hope in advance of an election.

E-mail Print PDF

There has been an increase of thefts from vehicles in the last week around town and many more are unreported. Officer Michel Brisson says it’s important to lock your vehicles, homes and garages as these types of thefts are crimes of opportunity. He goes on to say that not reporting the thefts to police reduces their ability to determine and anticipate patterns which can lead to arrests and charges. Again he reminds residents to “lock it or lose it”.
