Pet owners in Haldimand and Norfolk will have a chance to get their animals vaccinated. Starting this month the Simcoe and District Humane Society along with the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is offering rabies shots for $15. Rabies is a highly infectious and terminal disease that attacks the central nervous system of mammals, and can be transmitted to humans and other animals through bites and scratches. Vaccinations against the disease are mandatory for all dogs and cats in Ontario, but the shots are also offered for ferrets. The time and place of each clinic is available on the Health Unit’s website at www.hnhu.org

Haldimand-Norfolk’s Member of Provincial Parliament has spoken out against the new Ontario budget. Premier Kathleen Wynne delivered the first budget of her reign yesterday, and the outline vows to invest millions over the next two years into a youth job strategy to get young people into the workforce. However, MPP Toby Barrett doesn’t feel the effort is enough. He says the province should spend more on getting rid of Ontario’s debt so it can get back to funding institutions like schools and hospitals as soon as possible. Barrett also believes the budget should have focused more on disabled Canadians looking for employment.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the four mile run, as well as several local politicians. Anyone interested in participating can meet at the Boston Public School at 8:15 tomorrow morning.
