Seven Hamilton residents are looking for new homes after a fire this weekend. Early Saturday morning city emergency services were called to a semi-detached home on London Street North near Ottawa and Main where the blaze had broken out. Both houses were completely destroyed, causing $450,000 in destruction, and some damage to nearby homes. One couple was relieved, however, as their pet cats were found to have survived the flames. The Office of the Fire Marshall is currently investigating the cause of the blaze.

Norfolk County dog owners will soon have a place to let their pets off the leash. Last night council approved a plan to turn a pair of unused fields into dog parks. One will be at the abandoned soccer field in Simcoe, the second will take up the space behind Waterford’s baseball diamond. Council members are still unsure how to pay for the parks, which will cost more than $22,000. The pilot project is expected to create interest from other Norfolk residents, and more dog areas may be built elsewhere throughout the county in the future.
