Eight Hamilton residents have been arrested and charged following a federal investigation into criminal activities. They’re also supposedly connected to a criminal network in the city that commits offences from fraud to extortion. An RCMP official says the case goes to show how the drug trade funds other seemingly unconnected crimes. The eight suspects are each facing multiple charges including trafficking cocaine and conspiracy to commit break and enter.

A Hamilton woman is facing charges following a homicide investigation. In January police were called to a West Mountain home on reports of a man who wasn’t waking up. Inside the apartment emergency services found the body of 36-year-old Edward Cieslik but were unable to revive him. An autopsy showed that prior to his death Cieslik had been willingly injected with Heroin, but his accomplice had given him an overdose. Now 36-year-old Sarah Jackson has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.

A Hamilton man has died following a crash on the QEW in St. Catharines. Early yesterday morning the unnamed 53-year-old was driving a tanker truck in the Toronto bound lane when three vehicles in the oncoming lane collided. This led to a trailer spilling its load of steel coils over the divide in front of the Hamilton man's truck, causing him to crash. He later died in hospital. A 20-year-old passenger of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others suffered life threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. It’s not known if any charges are being laid.
