Ontario’s Superior Court has responded to the case of a Norfolk County man who was found keeping more than 140 dogs in “deplorable conditions.” In October of last year the SPCA removed the animals, mostly Italian Greyhounds, from the man’s property. 43-year-old John-Angel Voyager and two others are facing multiple animal neglect charges. A Norfolk County resident has fallen victim to another scam in the area. According to reports, the elderly man was visited by a door-to-door salesman who offered to test his water and give him a new filter system. Police haven’t said if the product was delivered but no services were performed. Officials believe there have other victims in the area. The OPP warns homeowners to always use caution when a stranger comes to the door, especially when they’re uninvited, and to never reveal personal information. Residents are asked to report all suspicious activity to police immediately.

Police officials are looking into the second fire to hit an Ancaster house in under a year. According to reports the blaze broke out at an abandoned home on Hamilton Drive. No one was injured and the flames were quickly extinguished. In June of last year the same address caught fire, causing $50,000 in damage. Police said at the time that the case was possible arson but found nothing from investigation. The Office of the Fire Marshal is considering the same possibility.

A new study out of McMaster University has suggested seniors should drive more. According to the findings, the key to road safety could be confidence. The report, which is looking at more than 120 drivers over the age of 70 in Hamilton, suggests many older motorists lack self-esteem, and therefore drive less and get out of practice. More than 900 seniors throughout Ontario are taking part in the study.

A Hess Village club owner is fighting a new by-law. Dean Collett, owner of Sizzle, Koi and Diavlo, is opposing a rule that requires club owners to pay for extra policing costs in their district. Hamilton officials say there needs to be at least ten special duty officers on the site during the street’s busy season. This would put the price of policing at approximately $180,000 a year. Collett, who already owes the city $25,000 for police services, says the cost is too high for most owners to afford.
