Local Teachers and Support Staff Vote Overwhelming in Favour of Strike Action

Hits

Local school teachers and support staff have voted in favour of a strike.  Teachers with the Grand Erie District School Board voted 95 per cent in favour of a strike at meetings held this week.  Educational Support Staff and Early Childhood Educators with the Brant-Haldimand-Norfolk District Catholic School Board have voted 82 per cent and 92 per cent, respectively, in favour of a strike.  Other local education bargaining units have also voted in favour of a strike.  The current contracts expired with both school boards on August 31st.  Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation Executive Officer Leslie Wolfe says the overwhelming support of the members proves they feel they are being stripped of their right to bargain by the McGuinty government.
