Almaguin Trusses Business Continues to Grow

A Sundridge business is getting funding to expand.  Kent Trusses is a building supply dealer that has become successful and continues to grow.  Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement visited their facility yesterday, to show his support on the success of the business.  Clement says Kent Trusses has not only grown in the local markets but in the U.S. as well.

The company has recently expanded their manufacturing footprint by over 35,000 sq ft and invested over $1-million in that expansion.  They've also added over 20 jobs in the past three years.  The North East Ontario Community Foundation and the NECO Community Futures Development Corporation is involved in the funding.  The formal funding announcement is expected in the next few days.

Liberal Leadership Hopeful Recruiting in Parry Sound-Muskoka

A campaign to gain supporters for Justin Trudeau in the federal Liberal leadership race is recruiting people in Parry Sound-Muskoka who are new to politics.  Organizers believe there will be a lot of interest, particularly from young people in the riding.  Greg Black, Riding Captain for the Justin Campaign here, says Trudeau is attracting lots of support across Canada from young people and diverse groups.  He expects the same interest will happen here.  In this leadership race, people can simply register as a Supporter of the Party at no cost, and be able to vote in April.  The local Trudeau team have opened a Twitter account - @PSM4justin.  A Facebook page will be up in the next few days.

Over $134,000 From FedNor for Central Almaguin Region

FedNor has given thousands in funding to help boost the economy in the Central Alamguin region.  Minister for FedNor and our MP Tony Clement announced yesterday that $134,250 will help develop a marketing strategy for tourism, identify economic opportunities and attract business to the area.  Clement says it's a great opportunity.

Sundridge, South River, Strong and Machar are all participating in the initiative.  The funding is part of FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program.

Stockey Centre Showing Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera is coming to the big screen of the Stockey Centre.  Next up for the Film at the Stockey series is the high definition taping of one of three sold out shows of the 25th anniversary of the Phantom of the Opera, held at Her Majesty's Royal Albert Theatre in London's West End.  The film will be shown at the Stockey Centre January 26th at 7:00pm.  Tickets are available through the box office or online at www.stockeycentre.com

Order of Parry Sound Awarded at New Years Levee

 This year's recipient of the Order of Parry Sound helps local people feed themselves and their families.  Executive Director of Harvest Share, Gail McDonald, received the Order of Parry Sound from Mayor Jamie McGarvey on Sunday at the New Years Levee.  The Order of Parry Sound is awarded to a deserving contributor to the Town of Parry Sound  who has enriched the lives of other in the community.
