First Nation Health Care leaders are working together with the North East Local Health Integration Network to improve access to care to aboriginal people from Fort Albany to Parry Sound. A meeting between the two sides took place last week where the North East LHIN's Local Aboriginal Health Committee was joined by NE LHIN CEO Louise Paquette and Interim Chair of the North East LHIN Randy Kapashesit who has also served as Chief of the Mocreebec in his home in Moose Factory for more than two decades. Every year, the NE LHIN provides funding to 37 health service providers who deliver care to the region's Aboriginal people, estimated to be around 55,000 in an area which stretches from the James and Hudson Bay Coast to Parry Sound and Wawa to Mattawa.
