Three residents from the South Seguin Estates area were convicted of setting fires during this summer's fire ban. One resident was convicted of starting a fire outdoors without taking all necessary steps to tend to the fire and keep the fire under control and was fined $990.00 plus victim fine surcharges. Another resident was convicted of starting a fire outdoors during a period of Extreme Fire Hazard which also carries a penalty of $990.00 plus victim fine surcharges. The third resident was convicted of starting a fire outdoors in unsafe conditions. Seguin Fire Chief Dave Thompson says these are serious offences which put our men and women in harms way and all residents and visitors to our area need to be aware of the seriousness of forest fires and the danger they cause.
