Local Brothers Curling in Provincial Championships

Brothers from Parry Sound will curl at the Bantam Mixed Provincial Championships next month.  Sixteen-year-old Nathan Marshall and 14-year-old Tyler Marshall have teamed up with two girls, one from Port Carling and another from Dundas to participate in the Provincial Championships from April 10th-14th in Galt.  This is Nathan's second time this year advancing to the Provincial level as earlier this year he skipped a boy's team in Ottawa.

Local Girls Win Bronze Medals at Hockey Championship Weekend

Local girls brought home some hardware from Championship weekend.  Saturday night, the North Simcoe Capitals Midget Girls A hockey team beat Scarborough 3-2 to win the bronze medal in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League Championship tournament.  Grace O'Brien from Seguin scored twice in the win and Tristyn Sandy of Moose Deer Point First Nation was in goal to earn the victory after sharing net minding duties all weekend with Jasmine Badger of Parry Sound.  Meanwhile, the Huntsville Sting Peewee B girls team also won bronze in the LLFHL championship tournament by defeating Whitby 2-1.

Local Snow Cross Racers Finish Top 10 in Kitchener

Local snowcross racers placed well over the weekend.  Nick Bowman from Nobel returned with fifth place and seventh place finishes in Pro Open division while Shelby Mahon placed third in the Pro Womens and Al Mahon of McKellar was sixth in the Pro Masters.  Their next race will be at Horseshoe Valley Resort this coming weekend.

Local Snowcross Racers in Kitchener This Weekend

Some people might be upset about all the snow, but it's perfect for local snowcross racers.  Nicholas Bowman from Nobel and Shelby and Al Mahon from McKellar will be heading down to race in the Rockstar Energy Snowcross Championships at Chicopee Ski Club in Kitchener this weekend.  Shelby will be racing in the pro womans class, Nicholas in Pro Open and Al in the Sports Masters.

Bantam AEs Win Silver in Year End Tournament

 The Parry Sound Ross Windows AE team returned from their final tournament of the season with a silver medal.  The team travelled to Aylmer over the weekend and tied their opening game against Prince Edward County 2-2 on Friday night.  On Saturday they edged the host team 2-1 then later on tied Lambeth 3-3 giving them a tie for second place in points.  Sunday morning, the team downed Lambeth 5-1 to put them in the finals against Woodstock.  The finals were a hard fought game with Parry Sound coming up just short in a 1-0 loss.

New Seguin Junior A Team Announces New Coach and GM

The new junior A hockey club in Seguin has hired their head coach and GM.  It was announced last week that Gary Astalos will be the head coach and general manager of the, yet to be named, GMHL team.  Astalos coached the Powassan Eagles of the GMHL last season in their expansion year and finished in fifth place, but says the Seguin organization has a different vision for their inaugural season.
