Hits

Rescue teams at the Algo Centre Mall are waiting for a futuristic piece of mining equipment to arrive from Toronto. This robotic machine is used in mining recues and can hold up slabs of concrete while at the same time using a tiny camera to detect signs of life. Its arrival is expected in Elliot Lake by 6:00 this evening. Meanwhile other heavy machinery has arrived form Sudbury. An escalator inside the Algo Centre Mall is causing the most headache for rescue crews. A spokesperson for the Heavy Urban Search and Rescue team says the unstable escalator will be knocked over, away from the two people believed to be trapped in the rubble. Meanwhile, Premier Dalton McGuinty says the army is on standby to come in and help with rescue efforts.
