Contrary to what a First Nation on Manitoulin claims, the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin does not support their protest. In fact the UCCM isn't involved in the matter one way or the other. The councils' CEO, Hazel Recollet says, the UCCM does not get involved in the internal issues of any First Nation on the island. Members of the Sheguiandah First Nation have been occupying an Elder's Centre for a month over transparency and accountabilty isssues with the band's administration. They say they will stay in the centre until their chief resigns. The protestors had said earlier in a news release they had the support of the UCCM.
